Over 40 Years of Combined Experience

Jim and Jill Cook are both Colorado cowhorse trainers. Both trainers are Colorado natives, which is out of the ordinary today.

Jim's Background

Jim was born in Glenwood Springs and raised on a ranch in western Colorado. After graduating from Colorado State University in 1973 with a degree in Veterinary Medicine, Jim decided to open and operated his own practice.

Outside of running his busy vet practice, Jim enjoyed training and showing his own horses in his free time. In 1999, Jim decided to sell his Veterinary practice and devote his time to training and showing his horses, primarily reined cow horses. In 2003 he decided to give up his Non Pro status and start training for the public.

Jill's Background

Jill was born and raised on the Colorado front range. She attended Lamar Community College’s Equine Training and Management program, graduating in 1987. She worked for several trainers and as a Veterinary Assistant before starting her own training business in 1995.

A Powerful Team

Jim and Jill were both very involved in the formation of what is now the Colorado Reined Cowhorse Association. A past CRCA President, Jim has also served on the Board of Directors. Jill is a past CRCA President, past CRCA Vice President and a previous board member. Both continue to be dedicated to the development of the CRCA.

Building on their previous experiences in the horse industry, in 2003 Jim and Jill formed J & J Cook Performance Horses, specializing in producing top reined cow horses, versatility horses, and stock horses. They enjoy showing in NRCHA, AQHA, NRHA and NCHA events and have earned several significant year-end titles at local, regional, and national events for each of these organizations.

Both Jim and Jill feel that their dynamic, supportive relationship in and out of the show pen contributes to the success of their program.
