J & J Cook Performance Horses provides premium cowhorse training services in Colorado. We are a smaller, hands-on operation by design. Due to the Veterinary background of both trainers, you can be assured that your cow horses will receive the highest level of care during their stay. 

We offer a wide range of cow horse training services from starting colts all the way up to finishing show horses. Because we have two resident trainers, you can be confident that your horse will get the unique approach that best fits their learning style. Our goal is to provide you the best cow horse training services in Colorado.

We are available for clinics, and also sponsor a few clinics with nationally renowned trainers every year. In recent years, we’ve hosted Don MurphySandy CollierTodd BergenLes Vogt and Jon Roeser; all multiple NRCHA and AQHA Champions. The input from the excellent reined cow horse resources helps keep our program fresh and productive, as well as fun!


J & J Cook Performance Horses is located two miles west of I-25 at Highway 52 just outside Erie, Colorado. We have a very nice outdoor arena and indoor arena (pictured above), fenced and measuring 170′ x 285′ with great footing.

Our facility also includes a cutting pen, round pen, and automatic heated waterers in most stalls. The indoor arena allows us to ride no matter what the Colorado weather brings.

We keep cattle, buffalo and ‘Polly Ester’, the mechanical cow on hand to provide the most options possible when training your cow horse and for lessons on working cattle.

Horses have always been a necessity in both our lives. It’s is of utmost importance to us to continually work toward improving our own horsemanship. Cow work is the most fun part of reined cow horse and stock horse events but it can make up 50 to 60% of your score! Make sure you have your fencing, boxing, or herd work down before you step in the show pen.
